CommAgility supports scalable 5G network tester for Viavi

The TM500 is a scalable test system for validating the performance of cellular networks, including 3GPP 4G, 4.5G, and 5G. CommAgility is supporting Viavi Solution in the 5G TM500 network tester. The system tests network performance as experienced by end users, across multiple cells and different radio access technologies.

Virtually all 4G and 5G base stations have been validated using the Viavi TM500, said Evan Gray, vice president product management at Viavi. CommAgility has supported TM500 with the development of 4G solutions since 2007.

He continued that the latest module has enabled the company to streamline the development process to upgrade the TM500 to 5G.

“We’re delighted to extend our long relationship with Viavi by providing signal processing cards for their 5G base station test systems,” said Edward Young, vice president and general manager at CommAgility. “By incorporating our standards-based processing boards they have been able to streamline development, and to focus efforts on customer requirements,” he added.

CommAgility’s hardware provides signal processing and flexible I/O options enabling OEMs to bring 5G products to market quickly. Baseband processing and RF cards include Texas Instruments SoCs from four to 16 DSP cores and Xilinx high-density Virtex-7 and Kintex-7 FPGAs, in a variety of form factors including AMC and VPX. The modules also provide fast, flexible I/O including Gen2 RapidIO, Gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express.

Viavi provides network test and monitoring equipment to communications service providers, enterprises, network equipment manufacturers, civil, government, military and avionics customers, supported by a worldwide channel community including Viavi Velocity Partners.

Advantech launches SMARC module for industrial automation

The first Smart Mobility Architecture (SMARC) module from Advantech is the SOM-2569. The SMARC small form factor computer module targets applications that require low power consumption and upgrades to computing performance. It is bundled with the WISE-PaaS/DeviceOn software to help customers with operations management and ease of maintenance, says Advantech.

The SOM-2569 SMARC module features Intel Atom E3900, Pentium and Celeron N series processors. It measures 82 x 50mm and supports up to three displays simultaneously. It also supports SATA, USB3.0/2.0, COM port, SMBus, and I2C I/O.

There are two LAN controllers that support two RJ45 ports and an on-board wi-fi module and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and secure boot for enhanced security.

The SOM-2569 is suitable for automation applications, says Advantech, with integrated wi-fi and Bluetooth on-board, and dual 1000base-T interfaces to meet both wireless and cable connectivity requirements. For example, when the wireless LAN connects to an outside network and the wired LAN can connect to two different local area networks simultaneously.

The TPM2.0 and UEFI secure boot protects against cyber intrusions. The UEFI security boot offers a process to ensure that a computer boots up using only software that is trusted by the manufacturer. When the computer starts, firmware checks the signature of each piece of boot software, including firmware drivers and the operating system. If the signatures are good, the PC boots and the firmware gives control to the operating system.

The SOM-2569 complies with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac PCIe wi-fi and Bluetooth 4.2 and RF certification.

Advantech’s design and testing processes allows it to offer wireless signal integrity and compatibility and also saves time for system integration. Tests include vibration at 0.028G²/ Hz, 3.5 Grms, bumping at one corner, three edges, six faces and thermal shock resistance, ranging from -40 to +85 degrees C at slope 10 degrees C per minute. Advantech rigorous validation proves SOM-2569 is suitable for use in a harsh environment.

Embedded edge computing modules exploit Intel processor technology

10 new COM Express Type 6 modules have been announced by congatec. They feature the latest Intel embedded processor technology, with four Intel Xeon, three Intel Core, two Intel Celeron and one Intel Pentium processors based on the same Intel microarchitecture (codenamed Coffee Lake H). This enables congatec to provide all 10 new processors on one COM Express module design – the conga-TS370.

This brings the total of processor module variants now available on this single microarchitecture to 14, offering wide scalability, points out the company.

The 45W six-core module with 2.8GHz Intel Xeon E-2276ME processor provides the highest embedded computing performance with integrated high-performance processor graphics currently available, claims congatec. The 2.4GHz Intel Celeron G4930E processor module with 35 watts sets a new price-performance benchmark, adds the company.

The two six-core congatec modules with a TDP of 25W offered on Intel Xeon E-2276ML and Intel Core i7-9850HL processors enable developers to create passively cooled embedded edge computing systems that can run up to 12 standalone virtual machines in parallel, via hyperthreading. This allows operation even in fully sealed systems, under the harshest environmental conditions and with the highest IP protection, asserts congatec. The same applies to the two quad-core modules with Intel Xeon E-2254ML or Intel Core i3-9100HL processor as well as the Intel Celeron G4932E processor-based module, all featuring a – partly configurable – TDP of 25W.

The company has released these modules in response to OEM customers using multi-core platforms to consolidate separate systems on a single embedded edge computer. Hypervisor technology allows customers to operate up to 12 virtual machines in parallel on one system, including real-time controllers (soft PLCs), industry 4.0 gateways for tactile internet via time synchronised networking, IoT gateways for sending big data towards the cloud and central management systems, as well as vision systems, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning applications. Software-defined networking functions such as intrusion prevention and detection systems that analyse data traffic parallel to the applications can avoid latencies that would arise with serial operation of analytics and applications, advises congatec.

In addition to embedded edge computing, they can be used in medical imaging systems and human machine interfaces (HMIs) as well as gaming, infotainment and digital signage systems.

Fanless touch panel computer installs HMI in tight spaces

The GOT107W-319 is a compact seven-inch fanless touch panel computer from Axiomtek which allows easy installation in space-constrained areas, says the company, as well as offers programmable on screen display (OSD) function keys for a variety of application access. The IP65-rated panel PC adopts a seven-inch WSVGA TFT LCD with a projected capacitive touchscreen, 320 nits of brightness and LED backlight. It is powered by the Intel Celeron processor N3350 or Intel Pentium processor N4200 (codename: Apollo Lake). The slim, noise-free, IP65-rated, seven-inch widescreen touch panel PC can be used for digital signage display, self-service kiosk, industrial control and IoT-related applications, advises Axiomtek.

In addition to the IP65-rated front bezel, the rugged GOT107W-319 is equipped with aluminium back chassis, which offers enhanced heat dissipation to ensure stable and reliable operation, says the company. The all-in-one touch panel PC also has five membrane keys on its front bezel, for convenience in LCD on/off, LCD brightness and volume control. It also features RS-232/422/485 with RI/5V/12V selectable by BIOS. There is no need to open the back cover to change jumper settings, adds the company.

I/O connectivity includes one RS-232/422/485 port, one RS-232 port, two gigabit LAN ports with Intel Ethernet Controller I211-AT and two USB 3.0 ports. For wireless network connectivity, the touch panel computer features one PCI Express Mini Card slot and one M.2 Key E slot. There is also one internal mSATA socket and one easily accessible MicroSD card slot to expand storage functionality. In addition, the seven-inch WSVGA panel PC features one 204-pin DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM with up to 8Gbyte of memory capacity. There is also an easily accessible external switch for AT/ATX mode selection. Multiple mount options including panel mount, wall mount, VESA arm and desktop stand are available for diverse installation requirements. The GOT107W-319 also supports Windows 10.

Axiomtek’s GOT107W-319 will be available in August, 2019.
