Rutronik extends NFC with IC from Panaonic for battery-less RF comms

As Panasonic extends its range of near field communication (NFC) tags with the MN63Y1221-E1 IC for battery-less RF communication, Rutronik announces that the distributor offers the IC which guarantees global interoperability as well as low power consumption.

The MN63Y1221-E1 complies with JISX6319-4 (212kbit/s/ 424kbit/s), ISO/IEC14443 Type A (106kbit/s), and ISO/IEC14443 Type B (106kbit/s/212kbit/s/424kbit/s) 13.56-MHz contactless IC card standard, guaranteeing global interoperability, says Rutronik. The MN63Y1221-E1 IC comes in a small SON8 package and provides an I2C host interface. It benefits from 8kbit ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM). The non-volatile, built-in memory enables 100 million write cycles and can be protected by a 128bit password from unauthorised access. The host has an energy harvesting output, enabling it to be powered by the energy harvested from the NFC magnetic field. The supply voltage range is 1.7 to 3.6V.

The MN63Y1221-E1 NFC tag IC provides three communication modes: radio frequency (RF), serial, and tunnel. The tunnel mode allows direct communication between the reader/writer and the host. The MN63Y1221-E1 is suitable for use in applications, such as wireless connectivity and human machine interface (HMI), Bluetooth/Wi-Fi pairing and set-up/diagnostics.
