Moxa acquires cybersecurity certificates for wireless product portfolio
Moxa Europe has announced that the company has become one of the first companies to achieve the EU type-examination certification under Radio Equipment Directive Delegated Act (RED-DA) for industrial networking devices, including Moxa OnCell G4300-LTE4 Series cellular routers, AIG-302 Series advanced IIoT gateways, and AWK Wi-Fi 6 Series APs/bridge/clients.
The EN 18031 series (RED-DA), incorporated into the harmonised standard of the RED, will come into force on August 1, 2025, to enhance cybersecurity, personal data protection, and privacy for all the wireless devices and products entering the European Union (EU) market. The certification testing and the audit were performed by TÜV Rheinland, a leading testing and certification company and an EU Notified Body for 2014/53/EU RED. The standard is considered one of the latest cybersecurity standards for IoT products globally and the first pointer to the eagerly awaited harmonised standards for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
The EN 18031 standards categorise assessment content into four types of assets: security assets, network assets, privacy assets, and financial assets. Security assets are mandated in all three standards, while the other three asset types are distributed across EN 18031-1, -2, and -3, each focusing on different aspects according to the asset type. Additionally, the European Commission has adopted a Delegated Act under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) that activates Articles 3.3(d), (e), and (f) for specific categories of radio equipment. This measure aims to enhance cybersecurity, personal data protection, and privacy. Therefore, Moxa’s wireless products* must comply with RED Article 3.3 to enter the EU market.
Security is integral to Moxa’s product and solution designs, uniting networking and industrial cybersecurity to provide defence-in-depth protection for industrial applications. Moxa is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all its wireless products* to comply with the EU RED 2014/53/EU Article 3.3 by the end of July 2025.
Guided by an IEC 62443-4-1 certified secure development life-cycle and referencing the IEC 62443-4-2, Moxa has developed a broad portfolio of wireless products* for various industries to embrace digital transformation by addressing the significant wiring challenges posed by the exponential increase in connected devices, particularly within legacy facilities.
The proliferation of wireless applications in the industrial landscape has urged customers’ need for cybersecurity, which has become fundamental and crucial to ensuring the safety and reliability of wireless connectivity in complex and demanding applications across a wide range of industries. Moxa wireless products that comply with the RED-DA cybersecurity requirements can assure safe, secure, and reliable operations for industrial applications.
