Mouser ships STMicroelectronics’ Sigfox-compliant S2-LP sub-1GHz transceiver
Semiconductor and electronics components distributor, Mouser, now stocks the S2-LP, low power, sub-1GHz transceiver from STMicroelectronics.
It is a successor to the Spirit1, S2-LP radio chip which offers designers increased transmission range, selectivity, low power consumption, and high configuration flexibility for internet of things (IoT) applications.
The ST S2-LP transceiver, is a low-power radio optimised for radio frequency (RF) products in the sub-1GHz band. It operates in the license-free industrial, scientific, medical (ISM) and short-range devices (SRD) frequency bands, with additional frequencies available through programming. The transceiver is suitable for use in networked products and support connectivity to the Sigfox global network, Wireless M-Bus, 6LowPAN, and IEEE 802.15.4g standards.
The S2-LP transceiver draws just 6.7mA receiving, and 10mA when transmitting at an output power of 10dBm. It has an efficient power-management circuit to provide an integrated switching regulator that enables it to operate from a 1.8 to 3.6V input at a power-conversion efficiency of 90 per cent. This, says Mouser, makes the S2-LP particularly suitable for battery-powered products.
The S2-LP is supported by three development kits, the STEVAL-FKI915V1, the STEVAL-FKI433V1 and the STEVAL-FKI868V1. All three development kits are also available from Mouser Electronics. Target RF wireless applications for the S2-LP device include IoT devices, wireless alarm systems, smart metering, smart lighting, industrial monitoring, building automation, and smart home systems.
