IoT gateway can be customised

Described as application-ready and easily customisable for rapid field deployments, the congatec IoT gateway is able to host up to eight wireless antennae that can be connected to three mini PCI Express slots and six internal USB-based slots for wireless and wired connectivity modules. Customised system designs are also available upon request.

The pre-configured, pre-certified IoT gateway can  connect a range of heterogeneous sensors and systems to cloud-based services for industrial applications such as smart cities, smart agriculture, connected homes and vehicles and digital signage systems.

The company’s embedded design and manufacturing services can produce optimised IoT systems, including certification services to deploy wireless technologies and edge devices that connect to carrier grade infrastructures.

For scalable wireless connectivity, six internal USB ports and three miniPCIe slots are available. There is support for LTE 3GPP modems, two WI-FI, two LAN with PoE and PRrofinet features, low power Bluetooth and 6LoWPAN. Other low power WANs, including LORA, 3GPP, LTE-MTC, Sigfox or UNB can be supported upon customer request.

The housing is equipped to mount up to eight antennae supporting multiple wireless standards in parallel, while enhancing signal quality by using antenna diversity. The 200 x 230 x 40mm³ metal housing is certified to IP53 for outdoor applications.

The system supports scalable computing performance using Qseven modules, which range from the NXP single-core i.MX6 processor up to a quad core Intel Pentium CPU. There is also support for the next generation of Intel Atom processors (Apollo Lake) for IoT gateway and edge computing application scenarios, including high- availability fog computing systems.

The embedded board support packages cover all major OS, says the company. The IoT gateway system also supports the features of the company’s embedded board controller, such as secure boot, management of Multi-Master I²C Bus, multi-stage watchdog, non-volatile user data storage, manufacturing and board information, board statistics, as well as power loss control.
