Rohde & Schwarz validates 5G NR protocol conformance tests

Rohde & Schwarz has carried out 5G NR protocol conformance testing with the R&S CMX500 radio communication tester. The Global Certification Forum GCF has accepted these 41 test cases, defined by 3GPP, in different FR1 and LTE band combinations. Accredited test houses, cell phone and chipset manufacturers can add the CMX500 to existing LTE test set ups, to smoothly upgrade path from LTE to 5G NR testing.

Mobile network operators worldwide rely on the certification schemes of the GCF and PTCRB certification forum for mobile devices in their networks. The CMX500 adds 5G NR signalling and RF testing by measuring the RF parameters of 5G NR transmissions and performing protocol tests. As most network operators will implement 5G NR as an extension of an LTE mobile network, the CMX500 can be seamlessly integrated into existing LTE test environments. It is also ideal for 5G NR testing in standalone (SA) mode. Developers using the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester or R&S CMWflexx test system can continue to use them for LTE measurements and add the CMX500 as an extension to perform tests on 5G NR signals.

The Rohde & Schwarz technology group develops, produces and markets communications, information and security products for professional users. The group’s test and measurement, broadcast and media, aerospace, defence, security, networks and cybersecurity business fields address many different industry and government-sector market segments.

The company has its headquarters in Munich, Germany. It subsidiaries in more than 70 countries, with regional hubs in Asia and America.

Basestation simulator supports next-gen eCall tests

To support the next-generation emergency call system (NG-eCall), Anritsu has extended its eCall test. The company has combined a basestation simulator MD8475A/B and the eCall tester MX703330E software, to support the next-generation emergency call system (NG-eCall).

eCall is a pan-European emergency call system for sending information about road accidents to a public safety answering point (PSAP). The European Union (EU) made the fitting of 112-based eCall in-vehicle systems (IVS) to all new M1- and N1-category vehicles mandatory from 31 March 2018.

Current eCall deployments are based on ETSI and CEN standards using an in-band modem to transport eCall data (MSD) over circuit-switched (CS) GSM and UMTS networks. EU operators plan to phase-out support for GSM and UMTS in favour of all-IP infrastructures like LTE and 5G in the next 10 years. eCall support for IP networks has better stability and reliability, notes Anritsu.

Anritsu has added the NG112 LTE eCall option to its eCall tester MX703330E GSM-based eCall test to implement RFC8147-defined NG-eCall function tests and end-to-end voice evaluation.

Anritsu also offers test solutions to validate TCU with eCall functions by supporting 1.0Gbit LTE simulation and NG-eCall tests using one MD8475B unit, providing both optimum coverage for general telematics tests, and helping cut test costs.

Anritsu has provided communications test and measurement solutions for 120 years. It partners with customers to help develop wireless, optical, microwave/RF, and digital solutions for R&D, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance applications, as well as network monitoring and optimisation.

Anritsu also provides precision microwave/RF components, optical devices, and high-speed electrical devices for communication products and systems. The company develops advanced solutions for 5G, M2M, IoT, as well as other emerging and legacy wireline and wireless communication markets.

It has approximately 3,500 employees in over 90 countries.

Adlink upgrades MCM for system-wide coverage

Adlink Technology has upgraded its MCM machine condition monitoring, with the launch of the DataConnect Pro remote facility information dashboard.

The dashboard integrates sensor management, data acquisition, edge platform and vibration analysis. Users can simultaneously monitor multiple system devices, master real-time machine operation information and create effective dynamic preventive maintenance strategies for reduced downtime, and increased production capacity, explains Adlink.

It is designed to accelerate industrial automation, says Tim Juan, chief director for the company’s Smart Factory Business Center. “Adlink aims to help enterprises break through the deadlock and build smart device monitoring applications from the end (device, sensor, gateway) to cloud (Paas, SaaS) to implement more effective equipment failure prevention,” he said

DataConnect Pro is based on powerful Microsoft Azure cloud platform architecture and SaaS services. It provides an expert built-in equipment monitoring system using spectral features for more precise notification, says Adlink. There is no need for additional program development or architecture modification, so that it is easily deployed in multiple fields. As users grow and add new system equipment, the expansion is guided by dashboard-based existing facility information rather than redeployment or reconstruction of the whole system, thus reducing expansion costs.

The integrated design reduces cabling complexity and cost and a minimal footprint allows the system to be installed in closer proximity to monitored equipment

A customised dashboard and alarm rules can be created through intuitive instructions with no need for programming.

Predictive alerts on equipment abnormalities prevent unexpected breakdowns and costly downtime

All users have separate accounts to ensure data security and retention of raw data for future analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Adlink Technology specialises in edge computing. It provides robust boards, platforms and user interfaces, real-time data connectivity solutions and enables industrial computing, such as machine learning via AI-at-the-edge.

Adlink serves customers across vertical markets including manufacturing, networking and communications, healthcare, infotainment, retail, energy, transportation, and government and defence.

Rohde & Schwarz verifies 5G NR with mobile network testing

Field tests of 5G NR networks have been performed by Rohde & Schwarz, using commercially available 5G NR devices.

The field tests of network performance and quality from the end-user perspective on a live 5G NR network are an important step to verify that the 5G network performance supports the demanding technical requirements, says Rohde & Schwarz, and ensuring it delivers the required quality of experience (QoE) to the end user. The company’s mobile network testing solutions for engineering, site acceptance, optimization, benchmarking and monitoring offer the ability to conduct such measurements using commercially available smartphones.

The ultimate test is to verify that the required quality of experience (QoE) is delivered to subscribers by using real 5G devices in live networks. A complete 5G NR network’s operation can be tested using commercially available 5G devices such as the Samsung S10 5G, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, Oppo Reno 5G and the LG V50 ThinQ 5G phones. Rohde & Schwarz engineers have conducted first field tests in live 5G networks and measured key quality of service (QoS) and QoE parameters.

The quality and performance of 5G NR mobile networks can be tested by operators using commercially available user equipment and Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions such as the R&S QualiPoc smartphone-based optimiser, R&S ROMES4 universal network measurement software or R&S SmartBenchmarker network benchmarking software. These cover video streaming quality and app testing, providing detailed IP and RF trace data using a rooted phone, RF and voice and data testing with a standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) device with open diagnostic ports.

At 5G World 2019 in London (12 to 13 June, booth 5G401) Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its test solutions that accelerate the adoption of 5G, including device testing in FR1 and FR2, 5G NR network coverage and operation testing and intelligent QoE analytics.

Rohde & Schwarz supplies mobile network testing, with a diverse product portfolio for mobile operators, infrastructure vendors, testing service providers, installation companies and government regulators. Products address every test scenario in the network lifecycle – from basestation installation to network acceptance and network benchmarking, from optimisation and troubleshooting to interference hunting and spectrum analysis and from IP application awareness to QoS and QoE of voice, data, video and app-based services.

Rohde & Schwarz’s mobile network testing solutions provide hardware, software and resources for the mobile networking industry to efficiently deliver better services, while enabling suppliers to increase the value of their networks and products.
