Panasonic’s PAN1782 module leverages the long range of Bluetooth 5.1

Panasonic’s PAN1782 module leverages the long range of Bluetooth 5.1, offering a higher symbol rate of 2Mbit/s with the high-speed LE 2M PHY or a significantly longer range with the LE-encoded PHY at 500kb/s or 125kb/s.

A new channel selection algorithm (CSA#2) improves performance in high interference environments. In addition, the new LE advertising enhancements enable much larger data volumes to be transmitted in connectionless scenarios. This makes the module a reliable choice for applications in smart city, industrial mesh networks and medical environments.

Based on the Nordic nRF52833 Bluetooth chip, the module supports direction finding by angle of arrival (AOA) and angle of departure (AOD) via Bluetooth. In addition, type 2 near field communication (NFC-A) is possible with the PAN1782, for example, for simplified pairing and payment solutions.

It features extremely low power consumption of only 4.9mA in TX and 4.7mA in RX mode and can easily be used in standalone mode. In addition, the module supports Bluetooth Mesh, Thread and Zigbee Mesh protocols.

Additional specifications include ARM Cortex-M4 (64MHz) with 256kB flash memory and 32kB internal RAM, 128-bit AES/ECB/CCM/AAR coprocessor for on-the-fly packet encryption, and up to 16 general purpose I/Os (GPIO) shared by up to 4 SPI, 2 I²C, 2 UART, 8CH ADC, COMP, QDEC, NFC-A, 4x PWM, nRESET.

Output power is 8dBm, configurable from -20dBm in 4dB steps and -40dBm in whisper mode. Sensitivity is -96dBm at 1Mbit/s and -103dBm at 125kb/s.

The voltage ranges from 1.7V to 5.5V and temperature from -40 degree C to 85 degree C.

There is pin-compatible hardware replacement for PAN1026A, PAN1762 and PAN1781 and it measures 15.6 x 8.7 x 2.0mm.

STMicroelectronics reveals scalable, automotive high-side drivers

STMicroelectronics has released single-, double- and four-channel automotive high-side gate drivers in a common PowerSSO-16 package style, with pin assignments that simplify scaling circuit designs to add more driver channels.

The gate drivers target applications throughout the vehicle, including safety, comfort and powertrain, body electronics, infotainment and driver assistance systems.

Meeting the automotive industry’s LV124 test schedule for deep cold cranking permits use with heavy loads such as engine starters and ensures reliable operation even in extreme winter conditions. With very low standby current, at just a few microamps, these drivers minimise the drain on the battery when the vehicle is turned off and not being used.

The drivers are manufactured using ST’s proprietary VIPower M0-9 technology , which permits extensive integration within a small die size in addition to high current capability and high efficiency. On-chip features include protection such as load-current limiting, load-dump protection up to 35V and limiting of fast thermal transients. Flexible reset management lets the designer configure the driver’s responses to faults and so best meet the needs of the application. The drivers provide reverse-battery protection through self-turn-on capability, which limits the power dissipation on the PCB to a survivable level.

In addition, diagnostic capabilities include proportional load-current sensing that permits detecting malfunctions in the load, such as disconnection of an LED string. There is also overload, short-to-ground, short-to-VCC and off-state open-load detection. All diagnostics are maintained whether the driver is turned on or off, permitting faults to be detected even when the load is not supplied.

The series comprises five single-channel drivers: VN9004AJ; VN9006AJ; VN9008AJ; VN9012AJ;  and VN9016AJ. The dual-channel drivers are the VND9008AJ, VND9012AJ, VND9016AJ, and VND9025AJ. The VNQ9025AJ and VNQ9080AJ each have four channels. All are housed in the PowerSSO-16 package, which has a space-saving 6.00 x 4.9mm footprint, is only 1.7mm high and is pin-to-pin compatible. They are also compatible with the previous- generation M0-7 family.

STMicroelectronics reveals single-chip antenna-matching ICs for easier, faster design with Bluetooth LE SoCs and microcontrollers

STMicroelectronics has extended its range of single-chip antenna-matching ICs that simplify RF-circuit design with two new devices optimised for BlueNRG-LPS system-on-chip ICs (SoCs) and STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x wireless microcontrollers.

The MLPF-NRG-01D3 for BlueNRG-LPS and MLPF-WB-02D3 for STM32WB integrate the complete filtering and impedance-matching network needed for best RF output power and receiver sensitivity with an external antenna. Each has 50Ohm nominal impedance on the antenna side. The chip-scale package has a minuscule footprint, 0.4mm bump pitch and a profile of only 630micro after reflow soldering. Also featuring a 2.4GHz low-pass filter, ST’s antenna-matching ICs ease compliance with worldwide radio regulations, including FCC, ETSI, and ARIB specifications.

The circuit elements are fabricated on a glass substrate leveraging ST’s integrated passive device (IPD) technology, which, the company claimed, minimises insertion losses and outperforms circuits built with discrete components. Integration on the same die is said to ensure consistent component parameters for end-product quality. In addition, ST’s IPDs help accelerate time to market, reduce bill-of-materials costs and miniaturise circuit dimensions.

The BlueNRG-LP and Blue NRG-LPS  SoCs and STM32WB1x  and STM32WB5x contain ST’s energy-efficient 2.4GHz radio IP and come with royalty-free protocol stacks and dedicated software tools. They help developers quickly design state-of-the-art wireless products, even without having extensive RF-design skills. Both provide on-chip features such as memory, peripherals, communication interfaces, power regulation and advanced hardware security including encryption, memory protection and public key acceleration (PKA).

BlueNRG-LPx SoCs can be used in standalone or network processor applications and support Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 features including point-to-point and mesh communications, advertising extensions and direction finding.

The MLPF-NRG-01D3 IPD is compatible with all variants, comprising the BLUENRG-3x5Vx, BLUENRG-3x5Ax and BLUENRG-332xx in UFQFPN and WLCSP packages.

The STM32WB5x and STM32WB1x MCUs are Bluetooth 5.3, Zigbee 3.0 and OpenThread certified and feature an Arm Cortex-M4 core for application processing with a Cortex-M0+ dedicated to managing the radio. They are available in WLCSP and UFBGA packages that connect directly to the MLPF-WB-02D3 IPD. A different IPD is available for other MCU variants in UQFN and VQFN packages.

The MLPF-NRG-01D3 and MLPF-WB-02D3 single-chip antenna-matching ICs are available from $0.14 for orders of 1,000 pieces.
