Cincoze offers series of sunlight-readable industrial panel PCs

For comfortable, convenient smart cities, Tawianese manufacturer Cincoze believes that human machine interfaces (HMIs), sensors, embedded computers, networks, and artificial intelligence data analysis are all technologies which will provide the tools to assess public infrastructure needs.

It has produced a range of outdoor kiosks, the Crystal line, which includes industrial panel PCs with sunlight-readable displays. The modular design is available in a selection of sizes. The sunlight-readable display models afford bright daylight viewing and are strong enough to withstand the challenges of an outdoor environment, says Cincoze. The panel PCs are suitable for outdoor kiosk use in transport kiosks, automatic ticket and other vending machines, public information displays and smart mailboxes.

The Cincoze sunlight-readable panel PC series uses Cincoze’s patented Convertible Display System (CDS) modular design to combine an industrial touch display and an industrial embedded computer module. The result, says the company is an easy-maintenance, easy-upgrade, and future-proof panel PC.

The embedded system component offers various options including, Intel Atom, Pentium, and Core i3/i5 CPUs, up to 64Gbyte of memory, and two 2.5-inch hard disk drives or solid state drives, selectable to match system performance needs.

Display options are from eight to 21.5-inches with projective capacitive (PCAP) touch displays, and high-brightness 1600 nits backlight for visibility even outdoors and in sunlight.

Specific I/O requirements so Cincoze offers the panel PCs with the most commonly needed I/O connections, including USB 3.0, COM, and GbE LAN, to connect to devices like barcode readers, cameras, and card readers. For specialised applications, there is an M.2 E key and two full-size mini-PCIe slots for wireless connectivity modules or any of Cincoze’s mini-PCIe expansion card (MEC) modules for additional COM, USB, and LAN ports.

To ensure uninterrupted operation, the sunlight-readable panel PCs can withstand a temperature range of -20 to +70 degrees C. The front panel is waterproof and dustproof with an IP65 rating. The super-hard 7H touch surface is scratch-resistant and can withstand heavy impacts, says Cincoze.

Miniature TVS diodes save space for bi-directional over-voltage protection

TVS diodes released by TDK extend the company’s portfolio of components for bidirectional overvoltage protection of I/O interfaces.

The CSP01005 and CSP0201 offer ESD protection but save space due the chip scale package (CSP) measuring just 400 x 200 micron2 (CSP01005) or 600 x 300 micron2 (CSP0201). The package height is just 100 micron.

The TVS diodes are designed for an operating voltage of 5.0V and a response voltage of 6.8V. The clamping voltages of the two new components are 7.2V at a peak pulse current of 8.0A or 8.0V at a peak pulse current of 16A.

The TVS diodes differ in their parasitic capacitances. There is the SD0201SL-GP101 (ordering code B74121G0050M060) which has a capacitance of 12 pF, and the SD01005SL-GP101 type (B74111G0050M060) which has a capacitance value of just 5.0 pF. Other features include a short response time and low leakage current of just 2.0nA at 3.3V.

The protective components are designed in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2 for an ESD contact discharge of up to 24kV. This figure exceeds standard requirements. Despite their size, the diodes can withstand a high surge current load of up to 8.0A according to IEC 61000-4-5 (8/20 µs).

The SD0201SL-GP101 and SD01005SL-GP101 TVS diodes can be used in a variety of applications in industry, smart homes and the IoT.

The small dimensions mean they are also suitable to protect wearables, smartphones, notebooks, tablets, smart watches or hearing aids.

TDK was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. Today, TDK’s comprehensive portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The company also supplies sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors. It also provides power supplies and energy devices and magnetic heads. Products are marketed under the product brands TDK, Epcos, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda.

TDK focuses on demanding markets in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology. The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America.

SBC has integral warm-up function to withstand extreme cold

Claimed to be the first 3.5-inch embedded single board computer (SBC) with an integral warm-up function, the CS551 can withstand cold weather environments down to -30 degrees C.

Available from Impulse Embedded, the CS551 SBC is suitable for use in military, aerospace, outdoor industrial applications and railway environments, where equipment can be subjected to extremes of temperature, operate across a wide temperature range and, most importantly, start up at low temperatures.

It supports Intel 9th/8th Gen Core processors and uses dynamic performance adjustment of both CPU and GPU speeds to allow the small form factor SBC to function in a wide temperature range of -30 to +80 degrees C when using wide temperature plug-in components.

The CS551 is powered by the latest Intel Coffee Lake processors from Intel ensuring support of the latest Windows 10 IoT and Linux operating systems. The board comes with one SODIMM socket supporting a maximum of 32Gbyte DDR4 2666MHz system memory. In addition to supporting operation over a wide temperature, the CS551 has an auto warm-up function as standard, to allow it to support the extremely cold temperatures.

There are also expansion interfaces for edge AI computing applications. These include dual DisplayPort+ graphical interfaces supporting resolutions up to 4094 x 2304 at 60Hz, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and four USB3.1 ports. Internally there is SATA3.0 storage support, an M.2 2280 M-key NVMe slot and a full-size MiniPCIe slot with SIM support for cellular connectivity.

For machine builders and OEMs, the CS551 also comes with an on-board LVDS interface for pairing directly to a flat panel LCD. As part of its Embedded System Services, Impulse offers a complete board to display pairing service including the customer’s choice of display, a custom display BIOS and interface cables.

Impulse can configure the CS551 SBC to a customer’s specifications in the UK engineering facility. This includes the choice of memory, storage, peripherals and Microsoft Windows Embedded operating system.
