TiePie releases instrument to wirelessly synchronise multiple oscilloscopes

The WCMI-8 is a long range wireless multi instrument synchronisation module, capable of operating over 400m. It allows multiple scopes to be combined into a single instrument, said Dutch company, TiePie Engineering.

The WCMI-8 module can operate with the WiFiScope and Handyscope series 5 and 6 instruments. The WCMI-8 module is placed on the extension connector at the rear of each oscilloscope and the multi-channel oscilloscope software automatically

detects how many instruments are equipped with a WCMI-8 module. All detected oscilloscopes, connected via WiFi, LAN or USB, are combined to a single oscilloscope with a total number of channels that equals the sum of the number of channels of the detected oscilloscopes. The WCMI-8 module has an internal automatic time synchronisation system that takes care that all sample clocks of the oscilloscopes are synchronised. When a trigger occurs on one of the selected channels, all oscilloscopes will be triggered simultaneously and all signals will be synchronously visible on the display.

The wireless multi instrument synchronisation modules can be used both indoors as in the open field. They have a built-in RSSI meter to check the receive signal strength of each module.

For synchronous measurements at multiple locations that are up to several hundred meters apart, or fully galvanically isolated from the computer and each other, TiePie recommends using the WCMI-8 module, in combination with a TiePie engineering oscilloscope. High speed sampling at 100 Msamples per second and 16bit high resolution measuring are supported by the WCMI-8 module. As there is no need for long cabling between the scopes and the computer and with no complicated setup. TiePie said installation is simple and hassle free installation.

Founded in 1987, the Dutch company TiePie Engineering manufactures computer controlled test and measurement equipment, such as WiFi, LAN and USB pscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, function generators, spectrum analysers, protocol analysers, data loggers and multimeters. Products offer features such as real time SureConnect connection testing, SafeGround protection and combining multiple instruments using TiePie’s CMI bus. TiePie’s compact oscilloscopes, function generators and other data acquisition products are used worldwide in many markets, including industrial process automation, automotive test and measurement, service departments, medical applications, research centers and educational institutes.

Power PROFET + 12V switch family offers new mount and enclosure options

Relays and fuses cannot meet the requirements of modern E/E vehicle architectures, asserted Infineon Technologies and partial or complete electrification of the primary and secondary power distribution must be taken into account. The company has launched low Ohmic high side switches in a TO-leadless package, the Power PROFET™ + 12V switch family.

The switches allow for new mounting locations and new enclosure options, enabling the next generation of decentralised power architectures with high efficiency. There are two variants: the BTS50005-1LUA with an on-resistance (RDSon) of 0.6 mOhm and the BTS50010-1LUA with an RDSon of 1.0 mOhm for lowest power losses. They are designed to control high current applications, especially in hot cabin and engine compartment environments for demanding high inrush currents, such as in heaters, pumps and fans. They provide more than 1,000,000 switching cycles compared to, for example, in average 200,000 switching cycles of a relay.

The switches can replace electromechanical relays, fuses and discrete circuits in power distribution boxes and other applications up to 65A in a 12V electrical system. The switches offer built-in protection and diagnostic functions, such as short circuit, over-current and over-temperature protection. They provide a fault signal via the diagnosis enable pin to a connected microcontroller for advanced diagnosis in power distribution modules. They are robust, offer protection and diagnosis features to improve the reliability of the entire vehicle by preventing failure modes in the power board net.

The smart power switches are housed in an eight-pin TO leadless package, reducing the footprint by 23 per cent compared to D2PAK while providing similar thermal performance. The accuracy of the load current sense has been improved down to five per cent and can be evaluated by reading an analogue voltage on the IS pin.

In addition, the switch family is PRO-SIL ISO 26262-ready and comes with a safety application note supporting the evaluation of hardware elements according to ISO 26262.

To enable easy design-in process of Power PROFET™ +12V devices, the family is integrated into the Infineon Smart Power Switches Intrinsic Fuse Tool and the Infineon Smart Power Switches kILIS Tool, both available in the Infineon Developer Center. The Smart Power Switches Intrinsic Fuse tool allows to calculate the intrinsic fusing characteristic based on the embedded overtemperature protection of the respective selected product under certain boundary conditions. The kILIS tool is used for calculating and visualising the range of the sense current for specific load currents on the respective selected product, taking the kILIS rate, sense resistor and ADC tolerances into account.

The Power PROFET + 12V switches BTS50005-1LUA and BTS50010-1LUA are in production. An Arduino Shield (BOARD BTS50005-1LUA) is also available.

Infineon added that it will expand the family with devices for 24V and 48V power net. Samples are available on request.
