MIKROE UNI Hall 3 Click adds low-power magnetic sensing to mikroBUS
The MIKROE UNI Hall 3 Click is an add-on development board for contactless magnetic sensing. It is based on Allegro MicroSystems’ A31015KEWALT-47SN nanopower, ratiometric, one-dimensional linear Hall-effect sensor, configured for south-pole detection.
The board is intended for applications including position sensing, proximity detection, contactless switching, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), industrial automation and smart home devices.
Magnetic sensing and electrical characteristics
The UNI Hall 3 Click is compatible with the mikroBUS socket and can be used with host systems that support the standard.
The sensor has a typical bandwidth of 15 kHz and an operating magnetic-field range of approximately −2.8 mT to 58.9 mT. At a 3.3 V supply, typical sensitivity is 4.7 mV/G. An onboard VCC SEL jumper enables operation at 5 V, at which typical sensitivity is 7.1 mV/G.
The board includes GPIO-controlled enable and sleep modes for applications that take periodic measurements. At 3.3 V, the sensor IC draws 1.9 mA in active mode. Sleep mode reduces current consumption to a stated 65 pA, with a typical enable time of 10 µs.
The sensor operates across a temperature range of −40°C to +125°C. Magnetic polarity and orientation determine the field applied along its sensing axis.
Detachable sensor section and board identification
The board uses MIKROE’s Click Snap design, which allows the sensor section to be separated from the mikroBUS base along predefined PCB lines. This enables the sensor to be positioned closer to a magnet or integrated into a compact assembly. Paired footprint pins provide the signal connections between the separated sections.
Onboard ClickID circuitry supports automatic board identification on compatible host systems.
Software and development support
The UNI Hall 3 Click demo application is developed using NECTO Studio and is compatible with mikroSDK open-source libraries and tools. The board is designed for use with development, starter and mikromedia boards featuring a mikroBUS socket.
MIKROE also provides project resources for the UNI Hall 3 Click through EmbeddedWiki.
