Innodisk launches GMSL2 camera starter kit for Edge AI vision
Innodisk has launched its GMSL2 Camera Starter Kit, an all-in-one multi-camera vision solution designed to accelerate edge AI vision development and validation.
The kit combines four 3MP GMSL2 camera modules with a capture card, FAKRA cables, power accessories and other components required to build a multi-camera vision system. It also includes camera source code, giving engineering teams greater flexibility to customise the software and accelerate the transition from proof of concept (PoC) to deployment.
As AI vision applications increasingly use multiple cameras for perception in robotics, autonomous machines and intelligent vehicles, integrating cameras, capture hardware, drivers and host platforms can add significant complexity to development. Innodisk says the pre-integrated hardware and software included in the starter kit can help system integrators reduce integration and validation time.
All-in-One GMSL2 Multi-Camera Platform
GMSL2 is a high-speed video transmission technology originally developed for automotive applications. It enables long-distance transmission between cameras and processing platforms, making it suitable for multi-camera systems used in demanding edge AI applications.
Unlike USB cameras, GMSL2 camera systems typically require dedicated capture hardware and platform-specific drivers. Innodisk’s starter kit brings these elements together with four fixed-focus 3MP GMSL2 camera modules, a capture card, four FAKRA cables, a power adapter, power cords and a quick-start guide.
The kit also includes camera source code for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit. This enables developers to begin system validation without having to source individual components or undertake the initial stages of camera, capture-card and driver integration themselves.
“The biggest challenge in a multi-camera AI vision project is often not the AI application itself, but the camera integration and system tuning that come before it,” said CK Hsu, Senior Manager of the Camera Product Business Department at Innodisk.
“With the GMSL2 Camera Starter Kit, Innodisk takes on the complexity of early-stage integration so customers can focus on development and move into PoC sooner.”
Camera Source Code Enables Customisation
The inclusion of camera source code allows engineering teams to adapt the software driver to their own requirements and use the starter kit as a foundation for further development.
Innodisk also offers customisation services covering areas from hardware fine-tuning through to application deployment. The company says these services are intended to help customers progress from initial evaluation and design-in to mass production.
GMSL2 Camera Kit Targets Robotics and Vehicle Applications
The GMSL2 Camera Starter Kit is designed for edge AI applications including blind-spot detection and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for heavy-duty vehicles, as well as object recognition and environmental perception for humanoid robots and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
Innodisk plans to expand its GMSL2 camera portfolio and introduce additional starter kits supporting different camera models and processing platforms.
The approach is intended to give developers a ready-made starting point for multi-camera edge AI systems while providing a path towards customised hardware and software for production deployments.
