Toshiba Starts Mass Production of M4H Microcontrollers for Consumer and Industrial Equipment

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has started mass production of three TXZ+ Family Entry-Class M4H Group microcontrollers (MCUs) for system-control applications in consumer and industrial equipment.

The new MCUs are designed for products including air conditioners, washing machines and multifunction printers, as well as industrial applications such as factory automation systems. The devices combine a 120 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4 core with integrated memory, analogue and digital peripherals, motor-control functions and self-diagnostic features.

The M4H Group comprises the TMPM4H4FYUG, TMPM4H2FYDUG and TMPM4H1FYUG. The devices are intended for system-control functions including control logic, interface processing and timing control, where responsive processing and compact integration are required.

120 MHz Cortex-M4 processing

Each MCU integrates an Arm Cortex-M4 core with a floating-point unit (FPU) and memory protection unit (MPU), operating at up to 120 MHz. On-chip memory includes 256 KB of code flash and 18 KB of parity-equipped RAM.

The devices operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply, supporting equipment based on 5 V power rails. An integrated 10 MHz high-speed oscillator, specified with ±1% accuracy, can reduce the need for external components while providing greater flexibility in system design.

Integrated peripherals and motor control

Peripheral functions include a 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC), timers, universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART), serial peripheral interface (SPI), inter-integrated circuit (I²C) interface and direct memory access (DMA).

An advanced programmable motor driver (A-PMD) supports brushless DC (BLDC) motor control, extending the devices’ suitability to applications that combine system control with motor-drive functions.

Self-diagnostic functions are also integrated to support applications with functional-safety requirements.

Three package options

Toshiba offers the three MCUs in different package configurations, allowing designers to select devices according to I/O requirements, PCB space and assembly constraints.

The TMPM4H4FYUG is supplied in a 64-pin LQFP measuring 10 mm × 10 mm with a 0.5 mm pitch. The TMPM4H2FYDUG uses a 48-pin LQFP measuring 7 mm × 7 mm with a 0.5 mm pitch, while the TMPM4H1FYUG is housed in a 44-pin LQFP measuring 10 mm × 10 mm with a 0.8 mm pitch.

Toshiba is providing product documentation, sample software and Common Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS)-compliant drivers to support evaluation and development.

Evaluation boards and development environments will be introduced progressively in collaboration with Arm ecosystem partners, supporting developers from initial evaluation through to production ramp-up.
