Infineon PSOC control C3 MCUs add PQC security for motor control
Infineon Technologies has expanded its PSOC Control C3 family with the PSC3M/P6 Main Line microcontrollers (MCUs), combining real-time motor and power-control capabilities with advanced security features.
Based on an Arm Cortex-M33 core running at up to 180 MHz, the new MCUs are designed to control up to four brushless DC (BLDC) motors from a single device in either sensored or sensorless configurations. They also support power-conversion topologies and applications requiring fast control loops, targeting industrial drives, drones, robotics, home appliances, renewable-energy systems, telecommunications servers, data centres and digital healthcare equipment.
The PSC3M/P6 family is designed to address applications where control performance, power efficiency, integration and security are required within a single MCU platform.
Post-quantum security for industrial control systems
The PSC3M/P6 devices incorporate security features designed to address emerging post-quantum cryptography (PQC) requirements. Infineon says the devices support the firmware-protection requirements outlined in the Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Suite 2.0 and provide Platform Security Architecture (PSA) Level 3 enablement.
The family also supports Secure Boot and firmware-update verification using SHA-512 and Leighton-Micali Signature (LMS) algorithms.
Infineon positions the security features as helping designers prepare industrial systems for evolving cybersecurity requirements, including those associated with the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
“ These next-generation MCUs are designed for multi-motor control and power conversion systems that require high performance, efficiency and advanced security features,” said Steve Tateosian, senior vice-president and general manager, IoT, Consumer and Industrial MCUs at Infineon Technologies.
“As industrial applications increasingly demand faster control loops for tighter control and improved efficiency, the PSC3M/P6 MCUs give customers another option to help meet their motor, power and general-purpose design needs without increasing their footprint.”
Fast control and wide-bandgap support
The PSC3M/P6 devices combine high-speed processing with analogue and digital peripherals intended for motor-control and power-conversion applications. Their fast analogue processing and digital-control capabilities are designed to support precise control loops and improve system efficiency.
The MCUs are also described as wide-bandgap-ready, supporting designs based on wide-bandgap power semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN).
Additional integrated peripherals include on-chip operational amplifiers, USB and I3C interfaces, extending the devices’ potential use beyond dedicated motor and power-control applications.
The family is scalable across features, packages, pinouts, memory and performance, allowing designers to develop different system configurations around a common MCU platform.
Software tools support motor and power development
Infineon is supporting the PSC3M/P6 family with its ModusToolbox Power Suite and Motor Suite development environments. The software platform provides control libraries, development tools and application-specific resources for motor-control and power-conversion designs.
Infineon also offers the ModusToolbox AI Assistant to support development and migration from other solutions to PSOC Control devices.
Availability
The PSOC Control C3 Main Line PSC3M/P6 MCUs with PQC support are available now. The CNSA 2.0-compatible devices include SHA-512 and LMS firmware verification for Secure Boot and firmware-update verification.
Dedicated devices are available for motor-control applications (PSC3M6) and power-conversion applications (PSC3P6), with multiple package options extending to 100 pins.
