Environmental sensor measures inside and out, on the move and stationary
Measuring indoor air quality, barometric pressure, relative humidity and ambient air temperature, Bosch Sensortec’s BME680 environmental sensors is housed in a robust, compact 3.0 x 3.0mm² package.
The BME680 sensor module can be used in consumer electronic products, such as smoke detectors, air quality sensors and the i-Blade Smartcase, modular phone case that converts a smartphone into a portable indoor air quality monitor.
The BME680 is both stable and robust, says Bocsh Sensortec, and has undergone long-term qualification and field testing for an extended lifetime of reliable operation.
The BME680 houses four sensors in a single package. It is designed to provide the accurate, detailed real-world data outputs required for today’s and future internet of things (IoT) applications in smart homes, smart offices and buildings, smart energy, smart transportation, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, elderly care and sport/fitness applications. It is also suited to mobile and stationary applications such as indoor air quality measurement, personal weather stations, indoor navigation and fitness monitoring.
The BME680 delivers environmental measurement performance enabled by internal compensation algorithms and precise factory calibration of its gas, pressure, temperature and humidity sensors. The gas sensor can detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in the part per billion (ppb) range.
The BME680’s pressure measurement accuracy of ±12Pa provides precise altitude information of ±1.0m, making it suitable for applications such as indoor navigation with floor level tracking. Bosch Sensortech claims that the BME680 offers best-in-class response time for measurement of relative humidity and ambient temperature, as well as an offset temperature coefficient of only 1.5Pa/K.
The BME680 will be available via Bosch Sensortec’s distributors from July 17, 2017. The BSEC (Bosch Software Environmental Cluster) software is available for download on the Bosch Sensortec website.
