VC Z smart camera from Vision Components offers real-time image processing

Vision Components has developed the powerful, yet small, VC Z embedded vision systems. It offers real-time image processing suitable for all kinds of demanding applications, says Vision Components.

All models in the series are equipped with an Xilinx Zynq module, a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9, operating at 866MHz and has an integrated field programmable gate array (FPGA). The compact design and low power consumption makes the VC Z cameras suitable for applications requiring high speeds but with limited installation space. The new camera generation is based on the board camera series VCSBC nano Z. Footprint is just 40 x 65mm. Vision Components also says that adaptability in installation and connection make each camera easy to integrate into machines and plant equipment.

Users can choose between two enclosed camera types: the VC nano Z, measuring 80 x 45 x 20mm, and the VC pro Z with IP67 ingress protection, which measures 88 x 58 x 36mm and can be fitted with a lens and an integrated LED illumination. All Z camera models feature several CMOS sensors. In addition, the board camera versions are available with an on-board sensor or with one or two external sensors with 30 or 80mm ribbon cables.

The new VC Linux operating system (OS) is optimised for interaction between hardware and software. Vision Components also offers an FPGA programming service which can accelerate processing speeds many times over. Like all VC cameras, Z series cameras are provided with a free-of-charge VC Lib software library, which provides over 300 basic industrial image processing functions such as pattern matching, that can be tested and debugged in advance in a simulation environment.

Vision Components develops and distributes intelligent, network-compatible real-time smart cameras which are able to operate without a PC. Customers can choose between models with ARM processors and VC Linux firmware or DSP-based models with the proprietary VCRT operating system. The product portfolio includes smart cameras with or without a protective housing, single board cameras, and vision sensors. Vision Components also develops custom-tailored machine vision solutions for a range of applications. Typical applications include quality inspection and automation. Vision Components also provides free software libraries for many applications including license plate recognition, motion capture, decoding, measurement, and positioning.
